The other side of the orchard story

Mark A. R. Kleiman has been following the tree-destruction/collective-punishment story from Iraq and says that Jonathan Adler at National Review Online's weblog The Corner has turned up some information that rebuts the collective-punishment argument. Even if this new information is "thinly sourced," I'm still hoping it's got the essence right. I really don't want to believe we'd be that careless.
